Are they only waiting for the Hour to take them by surprise? Yet ˹some of˺ its signs have already come.1 Once it actually befalls them, will it not be too late to be mindful?

Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then how [i.e., what good] to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance?
— Saheeh International
So, know ˹well, O Prophet,˺ that there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah. And seek forgiveness for your shortcomings1 and for ˹the sins of˺ the believing men and women. For Allah ˹fully˺ knows your movements and places of rest ˹O people˺.

So know, [O Muḥammad], that there is no deity except Allah and ask forgiveness for your sin1 and for the believing men and believing women. And Allah knows of your movement and your resting place.
— Saheeh International
And the believers say, “If only a sûrah was revealed ˹allowing self-defence˺!” Yet when a precise sûrah is revealed, in which fighting is ˹explicitly˺ mentioned, you see those with sickness in their hearts staring at you like someone in the throes of death. It would have been better for them

Those who believe say, "Why has a sūrah1 not been sent down?" But when a precise sūrah is revealed and battle is mentioned therein, you see those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] looking at you with a look of one overcome by death. And more appropriate for them2 [would have been]
— Saheeh International
to obey and speak rightly. Then when fighting was ordained, it surely would have been better for them if they were true to Allah.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Obedience and good words. And when the matter [of fighting] was determined, if they had been true to Allah, it would have been better for them.
— Saheeh International
Now if you ˹hypocrites˺ turn away, perhaps you would then spread corruption throughout the land and sever your ˹ties of˺ kinship!1

So would you perhaps, if you turned away,1 cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?
— Saheeh International
These are the ones who Allah has condemned, deafening them and blinding their eyes.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Those [who do so] are the ones that Allah has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision.
— Saheeh International
Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Or are there locks upon their hearts?
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?
— Saheeh International
Indeed, those who relapse ˹into disbelief˺ after ˹true˺ guidance has become clear to them, ˹it is˺ Satan ˹that˺ has tempted them, luring them with false hopes.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them.
— Saheeh International
That is because they said ˹privately˺ to those who ˹also˺ detest what Allah has revealed, “We will obey you in some matters.”1 But Allah ˹fully˺ knows what they are hiding.

That is because they said to those who disliked what Allah sent down,1 "We will obey you in part of the matter." And Allah knows what they conceal.
— Saheeh International
Then how ˹horrible˺ will it be when the angels take their souls, beating their faces and backs!
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs?
— Saheeh International
This is because they follow whatever displeases Allah and hate whatever pleases Him, so He has rendered their deeds void.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
That is because they followed what angered Allah and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds.
— Saheeh International
